MINUTES OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEETING

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE COUNCIL # 13407

· Meeting Date: April 12, 2004

· Location: Our Lady of the Mountain Parish Hall

· Roll Call of Officers: All officers were present except the Chaplain, Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and the Inside and Outside Guards.

· Reading of Minutes of Previous Meeting: The minutes of the March 8, 2004 meeting were approved as read.

· Grand Knight’s Report:

o Podiums

Dennis Mellecker and Billy Ellerthorpe are working on 3 podiums for our K of C meetings.

o Storage Space

Fr. Joe has offered our Council a cabinet to store K of C supplies/equipment.

o State Council Convention

This years State Council Convention will be held in Baker on May 14, 15 and 16. Possible attendees are Dennis Mellecker, Joe Cochran, Geeno Valdez and Tom Spellman.

Tom gave a brief description of the convention format.

o Squires Program

Tom Spellman will meet with Fr. Joe and Brian Teipen to discuss plans for forming a Columbian Squires Circle.

o Bank Account

Our council now has a bank account. The individuals authorized to sign are: Dennis Mellecker, Lou DePoyster and Tom Spellman.

o Membership Dues

The members were reminded to pay their membership dues.

o Bilingual 1st Degree Initiation

Tom Spellman has started planning a bilingual 1st degree initiation.

 

o Breakfast for First Eucharist Mass

Our council will sponsor the breakfast following First Eucharist Mass on April 25.

Preparation will start at 8:15 AM and serving hours will be 9:30 AM to about 12:30 PM (it was pointed out that it may be necessary to extend the serving hours to fully accommodate attendees at the 11:30 AM Mass).

It was approved that the following donations will be suggested:

Adult: $5.00

Child: $2.50

Family: $20.00

It was also approved that although this breakfast will not be advertised as an all you can eat meal, it will be treated as such. This breakfast will be described as a fundraiser with half of the proceeds going to our Youth Group.

During the meeting the following individuals volunteered to work on this breakfast: Mike Siegl, Tom Spellman, Paul Steele, Joe Cochran, Geeno Valdez and Doug Mansur. Others have previously volunteered.

The Youth Group will be contacted for help in clean up.

Through Brian Teipen, the Newman Center will be asked if they would like to participate.

It was suggested that a table be set up in the breakfast area with form 100s available for recruitment.

o Service Hours Report

Copies of our council’s Service Hours Report form were distributed. Members were requested to start filling out these forms for activities from July 14, 2003 to July 2004.

o Bilingual Ministries Group

Dennis Mellecker is participating in the Bilingual Ministries Group meetings. These meetings are scheduled on the last Sunday of each month. Leo Vandyke is leading this group.

· Treasurers Report

None

· Unfinished Business

o Council’s Contribution to Supreme

It is understood that the council’s financial contribution to Supreme is approximately $7.50 per member (or approximately $225 for our 30 member council).

· New Business

o Reimbursement of Grand Knight

Tom Spellman pointed out that our Grand Knight has spent a significant amount of his own money on supplies for our council. Reimbursement will be brought up at the next meeting.

o Oktoberfest Meal

Mike Siegl and Dennis Mellecker have signed up to participate in a Parish meal, on approximately September 19, 2004, that has an Oktoberfest theme.

o Seder Meal

Paul Steele pointed out that the Parish didn’t have a Seder meal this year. He suggested that the K of C might want to sponsor such a meal next year.

· Good of the Order

Prayer Requests for specific health related issues of Brother Knights and Families. [Specifics will not be shown on public web site.]
