LOOKING BACK ABIT
April 25, Communion Sunday Breakfast- Our first parish service event was a success. We had more than a dozen Knights from our council and 20 youth showed up to work the different shifts. Thanks to one and all for all your great help and it was actually fun for those who were able to come. We spent right at $200 and cleared around $185. We agreed to give $50 to the youth group for flowers to crown Mary on Mothers day so this was a big success on a number of fronts. We started at 8:30 and were done by 1:30. The meals cost us around $.75 per meal to make. The boil-in bag “egg scramblers” we got from Willamette farm were a HOOT! and sooooo easy. (Bruce, your egg scrambling in the electric fry skillet blowin’ fuses days are over.) We have $50-60 worth of food left over besides and the Grand Knight bought an extra box of sausage and case of eggs with his own money cause he heard from one very reliable source that the Hispanic families would come and eat after. As it turned out they had many different parties to go to as families so we only sold 30 meals after the 11:30 Mass. We could put on another Breakfast for 150 people with the food we have on hand now. At any rate Fr. Joe still wants us to help the Neuman Ctr.guys do a breakfast and there is a lot of interest in doing one more breakfast at the first part of summer once the mass schedule changes to three morning masses (so we get a better turn out.) Anyhow it was a blast and I hope more of you guys have the time to join us next time!!!
OTHER NEWS AND EVENTS
Fellow Knights, Please pick up your 2004 membership cards and pay annual fee $25. For any who haven’t pre-paid, the wives badges are done and will cost each Knight $7. These are the latest thing for the ladies, the badge has 2 strong magnets and adheres through their sweaters and stuff with no damage to the garment. Their badge is very simple with Our Lady of Guadalupe Council in small letters on top, the KofC emblem on the left and their name stacked on the right. They are very “handsome” and the same color and lettering as the men’s.
We have a new bulletin board in the parish hall at OLM and we'll post our most recent outreach events. Photo’s of our installment and Breakfast will be posted there soon. Right now we have the article on “The Passion of the Christ” and an outreach to see if there is interest in starting up a KofC Squires group. Fr. Joe has OKed the idea and we have a core of men to staff it. Reymundo Valdez needs 9 more boys , ages 10 to 18. Any interested Knights please call Tom. Brother Tom Spellman is a professional Martial Arts instructor & wants to start up a “Spiritual Warriors” for Christ group centered around the Eucharist, Spiritual and Physical disciplines. Talk it up with fellow Knights that have boys to age 18. The Hispanic community is especially interested in this idea.
We have a website put together for you to visit with our newsletters and more food for thought and other recent photos, etc. Our domain name is ashlandknights.org Check-it-out to get your “New and Improved” service report sheet! This is a little test to see if you guys are visiting YOUR website.
There will be updates posted via our e-mail sites now that we have our database set up so please make note of these important messages from your fellow officers and PLEASE respond as timely as you can, especially the ACTION ITEMS. We all get so busy and it REALLY helps when you all post us back and let us know if you can help out, so THANKS for that!
PRAYER INTENTIONS
We Praise God and His power thru our prayers and see the results!
Please post Dennis or Doug with your prayer intentions and we will create a Knights of Columbus Family Prayer-Chain within our council. Thanks
SPIRITUAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT
“Time is such an interesting and fleeting thing. Funny tho, the more of it that we give to our Lord Jesus in the Building up of His Kingdom, the more we seem to have.
Challenge yourselves Fellow Brother Knights, to set aside a little special time or go out of your way and give up a secondary pleasure for the real thing … - a taste of the Trinitarian Love that forever calls out to us and is our heritage, and see what happens.”
