Knights of Columbus Council #13407 Newsletter  Vol.1  No.2 February, 2004

UPCOMING EVENTS

Mon. 1/12/04 Our monthly meeting will be held at Our Lady of the Mountain parish hall at 7pm. For any Knights who have not paid for their nametags, please contact  Brother Joe Cochran .The nametags cost $6.00. It was voted at our last meeting to order our wives name tags. They are smaller, same color and lettering but with magnetic catches on back to wear with sweaters, etc.  These cost  $7.   Also Knights, our yearly membership dues are due now ($25) and please pay this and pick up your new 2004 KofC membership card at the same time. We won't be let into any other councils meetings without our current card.

Sun. 3/14/04,   Feb. 8, after the Sun night dinner Fr. Joseph said that it would be a good night to have our installation. Our State Deputy, Mike Adams along with Dick Weber, our District Rep. will officiate and present our parish with our beautiful engrossed charter. (You’re gonna have to come to see for yourself what “engrossed” is) This is our official welcome to Our Lady of the Mountain parish and all Our Lady of Guadalupe Knights and their wives are cordially invited to come and be honored. Please contact Dennis if you and your wife can make it to our installment. We need to know how many seats to reserve at mass and how many will be coming for dinner. THANKS

OTHER NEWS AND EVENTS

Check out the March issue of Columbia magazine. On pg 32 in the “photo-finish” section Our Lady of Guadalupe Council is featured with a spread about who we are and what we are doing.

Also, we were featured on a full page honoring us for our activities with the Dec 12, Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations at the EXPO.  On the accompanying page there is an article about youth Squires and how our own young Reymundo Valdez wants to start up a KofC Squires group. This is open to any youth from the ages of 10 thru 18. Reymundo needs 10 boys to start up. We bounced the idea of a martial arts discipline type “Warriors for Christ” off Fr. Joseph and he was very much in favor of the idea. Tom Spellman, Geeno Valdez and myself are the lead-guys on this idea. Anyone interested in working with our youth in this capacity please contact Tom or Dennis. This will not conflict in any way with our already existing youth programs at OLM. The idea of a co-ed group is even in the stew.

Brother Paul Steele has put together a webpage for us and we will soon be able to visit and add to it. We will have recent activities about who we are and what we’re doing, spiritually inspired articles and possibly some nonsence if you guys want.  All with the Holy Spirit’s lead & for the glory of God.

Visit our new bulletin board in the OLM breezeway. You are all welcome to add your input, see Dennis.

We will be doing one or two of the soup dinners during Lent as agreed at our last meeting, these dates will be posted as soon as we know.

Finally, St. Patrick’s Day is March 17 and our fellow brother Knights at the Central Point council have invited us to their Gala St. Patty’s Day celebration. This is one of the St. Augustine council’s featured events for the year and one not to be missed. We will let you know the date soon as possible.

(Have you noticed how you’re gonna have to pay attention to our upcoming events schedules?) One is because things are happening at a break-neck pace these days and the other is because your Grand Knight is runnin’ in place doing the best he can.  Any Brother Knight that wants to help out with our events schedules and newsletter will be greatly welcomed and appreciated, see Dennis… (it takes about two hours to put the newsletter together, I have the format and template done already.)
THANKS BROS FOR ALL YOU DO !!

PRAYER INTENTIONS

Please post Dennis or Doug with your prayer intentions and we will create a Knights of Columbus Family Prayer-Chain within our council. Thanks

FOOD FOR FAITH

Here's something you might enjoy--

Three monks knelt in the chapel in the dark morning hours before dawn. The first thought he saw the figure of Jesus come down from the cross and rest before him in midair. Finally, he said to himself, I know what contemplation is.

The second felt himself rise out of his place in the choir. He soared over his brother monks and surveyed the timber-vaulted ceiling of the church, and then landed back in his place in the choir. I've been blessed, he thought, with a minor miracle, but in humility I must keep it to myself.

The third felt his knees growing sore and his legs tired. His mind wandered until it came to a stop on the image of a luscious hamburger laden with onions and pickles.

'No matter how hard I try," said the devil's helper to his master, "I can't seem to tempt this third monk."

from Thomas Moore- "The monk who dwells in daily life"

26 Beautiful One-liners

1. Give God what's right -- not what's left.
2. Man's way leads to a hopeless end -- God's way leads to an  endless hope.
3. A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.
4. He who kneels before God can stand before anyone.
5. In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma--but never let him be the period.
6. Don't put a question mark where God puts a period.
7. Are you wrinkled with burden? Come to the church for a face-lift.
8. When praying, don't give God instructions - just report for duty.
9. Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church.

11. The church is prayer-conditioned.
12. When God ordains, He sustains.
13. WARNING: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning.
14. Plan ahead -- It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
15. Most people want to serve God, but only in an advisory position.
16. Suffering from truth decay? Brush up on your Bible.
17. Exercise daily -- walk with the Lord.
18. Never give the devil a ride -- he will always want to drive.
19. Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it.
20. Compassion is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.
21. He who angers you controls you.
22. Worry is the darkroom in which negatives can develop.
23. Give Satan an inch & he'll be a ruler.
24. Be ye fishers of men -- you catch them & He'll clean them.
25. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
26. Read the Bible -- It will scare the hell out of you.

What we do in life echoes in eternity....
